Velocity Urgent Care in Rocky Hill & Southington, Connecticut
“Working with Laura was very easy. She was receptive to our requests and was able to easily blend 2 different
tastes and come up with a design that would ultimately be pleasing to our patients. The product she offers is highly professional and
cost effective, not to mention very timely. We recommend her to any healthcare facility with confidence.”

Project Details
Two UConn Health emergency room doctors decided to start their own Urgent Care practices.
Dr. Aleksandr Gorenbeyn, MD, worked with Laura Bordeaux, principal at FX Design, to remodel his Glastonbury home.
When the new venture was envisioned, he approached Laura for her expertise in medical facility product selection & design.
The urgent care project appeared to be straight forward at first. FX Design would develop a check-in desk, waiting room, emergency triage, exam
& X-ray rooms. The challenge arose when we discovered that both doctors had distinctly separate taste, specifically regarding color pallet preferences.
Dr. Gorenbeyn preferred warm terracotta hues & natural wood, while Dr. John Yaylagul, DO, liked cool charcoal grays with aubergine accents.
Our team had to find a way to blend these two distinctive color pallets into one emergency care medical center. The solution was to set up a two-sided exam room design & blend the two-color pallets in the center.
For the front check-in desk, nurses’ stations & waiting room we selected teak hue wood-look LVT flooring to blend the two color pallets. On the right side of the hall, all exam room tables with OBGYN privacy curtains & seating became aubergine with charcoal gray textured laminate medical cabinets. On the left, we combined the teak wood laminate cabinets with terracotta colored vinyl exam tables & wall accents.
To anchor the two pallets, teak wood LVT floors ran down the common corridors. For all exam rooms, we selected a Bio flooring product with welded seams so no bacteria could enter the seams. For all medical counters, we selected a Corian non scratch antibacterial solid surface in crisp white.
Both Doctors were incredibly pleased with the blended results, so much so, that when they opened their second urgent care in Southington, they asked FX Medical Design to duplicate the interiors. For the Southington facility, FX Medical specified the same finishes as the Rocky Hill facility, but in a different floor plan footprint.
